The layout of the description field is as follows:
- Indentation
The spacing is one bullet per indent, given by the Indenture Code.
- Continuation lines
Continuation lines of description are to the same indent as the first line of the description.
- Attaching part
Attaching part is distinguished by the replacement of the indentation bullet with an
asterisk.
- Supplementary information
The decription column is also used to convey supplementary information. In the
construction of the description column, the content of the Description For Part appears
first, followed by the contents of the Description For Location, followed by supplementary
information.
Description For Location and supplementary information are given in brackets.
Different types of information within the brackets are separated by oblique strokes (/).
The supplementary information is presented in the following sequence:
- Storage / Shipping Part
- Calibration Marker
- Category I Container Location
- Fitment Code
- Refer To
- The Refer To content can contain the National Publication reference of the equipment
with its own Catalogue. The list of the National Publication reference is given in the List
of Equipments with Separate IPC.
- Select Or Manufacture From Range
- Select Or Manufacture From Identifier
- MOD / PREMOD Indicator
- The list of the Modifications inserted in this issue of the Catalogue is given in the List of
Incorporated Modifications.
- Reference Designator
D. Quantity Per Assy (Qty per Assy)
These fields contain the number of units required for the next higher assy and the code for
standard unit/quantity delivered to the Customer. If the abbreviation REF in indicated, the
quantity of this item must be researched in another figure or represents the amount of a
installative. The abbreviation AR (As Required) means that the item quantity has to be
determined from time to time, according to the assembly requirements.
The abbreviation NP (Non Procurable) refers to particulars not furnished for spare parts.
E. Interchangeability
The data field contains two characters: the first character is used to indicate the items
interchangeability with the preceding item, and the second is used to indicate the items
interchangeability with the succeeding item listed at the same location.
Definition of Codes:
- 0 Indicates that the items are not interchangeable
- 1, 2 Indicates full interchangeability with the following applications:
ICY codes 1 and 2 are always used one with the other, and may be used for two items
presented at the same Configuration Standard, or for two items at different Configuration
Standards.
For two interchangeable items at the same Configuration Standard, code 1 identifies the item
whose source of supply is running out and code 2 identifies the preferred, replacement, item.
When the two interchangeable items are at different Configuration Standards the code 1 item
is the pre-modified item and the code 2 the post-modification item.
